What We Believe

A shared faith centered on Jesus Christ.

The Church of the Nazarene is part of the global Christian community. These beliefs are held in common with Christians around the world and shape how we worship, serve, and live as disciples.

Statement of Faith

Core beliefs of the Church of the Nazarene.

Our faith is rooted in Scripture, centered in the saving work of Jesus Christ, and lived out through the transforming presence of the Holy Spirit.

1

The Triune God

We believe in one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

2

Scripture

We believe the Old and New Testament Scriptures, given by divine inspiration, contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living.

3

Human Need

We believe human beings are born with a fallen nature and are in need of God's saving grace.

4

Accountability Before God

We believe those who finally reject God's grace are separated from God.

5

Atonement in Christ

We believe the atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race, and that all who repent and believe in Christ are justified, regenerated, and saved from the dominion of sin.

6

The Witness of the Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit bears witness to the new birth and to the entire sanctification of believers.

7

Entire Sanctification

We believe that believers are to be sanctified wholly, subsequent to regeneration, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

8

Christ's Return and Final Hope

We believe our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgment will take place.
