District Superintendent
Dr. David E. Downs
Dr. David Downs and His wife, Susan live in Fort Worth, Texas. He became the Superintendent for the West Texas District in September 2011 after serving as Superintendent of the East Ohio District for 10 years.
He previously pastored in Texas at Dallas First Church before moving to Canton, Ohio, to serve as the pastor of Canton First Church. He became East Ohio District superintendent in the summer of 2001. His early pastorates included churches in Oklahoma, Missouri, Massachusetts; and New York.
David and his wife, Susan, also served for 5 years as Nazarene missionaries in South Korea, where David was a professor at (what is now) Korea Nazarene University.
He is a graduate of Southern Nazarene University, earning a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a master’s degree in religion, and of Nazarene Theological Seminary, earning Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees.
While in Ohio David was the board chair of Mount Vernon Nazarene University. He is currently the board chair of Nazarene Theological Seminary.
He has also served on the general board, the DSAC, the RCOSAC, and the Manual editing committee.
His wife, Susan recently retired from her role as senior fiction editor for Guideposts but continues to serve as a contract editor for Guideposts and Bethany House publishers. She is also a published author. She formerly served as an international adoption program coordinator and licensed social worker.
The Downs have five adult children and five grandchildren They are also raising a 14-year-old grandson.
